Is the background on this page murky? The tide may be going out. Dark? The sun must have set in Miami for the day. This webpage’s background is a live-view into Biscayne Bay, via the Coral City Camera, so we hope its loading crystal-clear!

Join the Lowe for a virtual talk with Colin Foord, marine biologist, coral aquaculturist, artist, and filmmaker and with Dalton Hesley, Senior Research Associate III, University of Miami RSMAS, Rescue-a-Reef, as they discuss the Coral City Camera. The Coral City Camera has been live streamed and projected in the Beaux Arts gallery at the Lowe Art Museum since September 2021.

The Coral City Camera is an underwater camera streaming live 24/7 from the easternmost end of Port of Miami that was first deployed by artist-scientist duo Coral Morphologic in late 2019 and produced with Bridge Initiative and Bas Fisher Invitational. Over the ensuing 2 years, the CCC has become globally successful, unexpectedly serving as a tranquil window into Miami's underwater world and connecting people online during stressful pandemic lockdowns that prevented socialization and travel.

Scientifically, the CCC has documented over 175 species of fish and serves as a tool to monitor experiments conducted in partnership with NOAA and University of Miami's Rescue-a-Reef citizen science initiative. The CCC serves to build civic pride through biodiversity by showcasing the remarkably colorful and diverse marinelife and corals that have colonized Miami's coastal infrastructure.
